  Answer: Hi Hung, here is how to obtain your resale certificate: First, you need to obtain the seller's permit because, in MA, you need both the permit and the certificate.  



The Massachusetts sales tax is 6.25% of the sales price or rental charge on tangible personal property, including certain telecommunication services sold or rented in Massachusetts.



Sales tax is generally collected by the seller.  Since you are the seller, you will have to collect a 6.25% sales tax. For example, if you sell a gift at $40, you need to charge $40 plus $2.5 in sales tax because  6.5% of $40 is $2.50.  In addition, since you are doing business as (DBA) "A Story Begins," you need a DBA certificate filed.



However, you can also set up an LLC or corporation to register your DBA name.



  Finally, all businesses are required to obtain a business license because a "business" needs a business license.  You don't need a gift shop license, you need a business license for your gift shop.
